I covered a distance of 282 km to reach Dead sea from Wadi Rum, I opted for a straight drive only with one stop at a very fancy Mid Way castle ( Restaurant, Souvenir and Handicrafts), it is always enchanting to see a country's finest hand-produce (Chinese goods conspicuously excused) in colossal tourist shops but for one reason or other I stir myself out of the temptation typhoon so not to over-splurge. As it was the sixth day of my trip I allowed myself a few flicks in the car and in no time we were at Holiday Inn- Dead Sea.
Dead Sea finds a little place in 3rd grade text books and a greater place in the curious minds of the readers. I must admit, I never had a burning desire to visit it but none- the -less have always been curious about it. After dumping the luggage in the room without a view, I leaped towards the sea, only I didn't realise that dead sea being below sea level, I had a long way gravitating and passed through multiple levels and pools at each level. Finally I was at the sea, a big part of the beach was closed for construction and there was barely any soul there as it was scorching hot at 2.00 pm.
In the early evening, my better half and me lazed around the the pool sipping cocktails, cooling in the pool and reviving in the Jacuzzi, it was time to go the sea when our side of Earth moved away from the Sun. This time there were few people, some of them lying in the water in a incline position resembling a boat, they looked cool like cucumbers. I walked into the sea and with the help of my husband tried to balance in a concave position but water and me have never been best friends and I lost my balance, got uneasy and wanted to reach the banks. I tried to swim back but my mouth and eyes came in contact with the water. Rats! the eyes burned as though you have applied chilli paste, and the mouth, I can bet my life you would have not tasted anything that bitter. Ocean water would taste super sweet infront of the dead sea water. The guard came to my rescue squirting fresh water in my eyes and helping me out, I guess there are many like me who under assume the hyper salinity of the water as he went about so calmly erasing my uneasiness. In no more than a few seconds, I was sublime, the place became more cheerful as more people flocked in, I applied the dead sea mud (clayey black provided in large wooden bowls at the beach) all over, let it dry and then washed it with the sea water staying near the banks and little by little I did move ahead too. I must mention that there were one or two swimming efortlessly outside the cordoned area too. The skin felt soft as butter and the mind lighter, its the magic of mineral rich water of the unique Dead Sea.
