A latino experience in Amchi Mumbai!
At the South- East tip of the island city of Mumbai, this café sets a Cuban tone with its ambience. The colourful walls have framed pictures depicting life and people of Cuba giving one a feeling of being with them for a little while that one is there. Also there is this big flag of Cuba, sayings on the wall that creates a Havana atmosphere. The first thing that strikes you when you enter is the spaciousness of the place and pillared arches (earthy red and blue) allowing natural light to enter and cleverly separating the two sections.
I was happy to join the congregation of bloggers put in order by FBAI ( Food Bloggers Association, India). Selecting a drink could have been a humungous task, given the options in the menu. To my rescue came the friendly captain who recommended Zombie, their signature drink. Mojito with a twist, it came with a sugar cube with absinthe, sparked by the server and thrown into the spirit.
Wow! the drink tasted great and am glad it did not live upto its name. I was as sane as ever after it.
What is that one thing which is common among all bloggers and never runs out? Conversation! Powwow!!
Entre dressed to kill came to the table in the thick of sounds. But!!! no one dare touch it. First the shutterbugs (a dozen of us) got up to perform the ceremonial task of capturing its beauty. Platters were taken all round the café to find the desirable glow and background.

A masterclass led by bartender Mukul grabbed our attention. He demonstrated and revealed the secret behind preparing an authentic Mojito. Mint leaves lose their aroma and freshness if they are pressed too hard, chopped or torn. The best way to use them is to just lightly tap them between your palms. Second- he showed us how to make a fresh strawberry Mojito. While we were enjoying the drinks, a little surprise came rolling to us. We were divided in 4 teams of 3 each and were asked to prepare a cocktail and that too for a prize. Out came Mojitos infused with chilli, cinnamon, fruits (Sangria style).
And then the main-course
I agree cottage cheese works great with cocktails but here the portion size was too intimidating for me. The lentil was aromatic and well cooked. I loved the Rolado, a Cuban sandwich very popular as street food in the country of origin.
Sugar Rush!
I am not a great fan of Churros, but the toffee pudding was to die for. The cake was moist and the sauce complement it perfectly with the right balance of sweetness and slight bitterness of caramel.
